Theme “UNLOCKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVED HOUSEHOLD FOOD SECURITY”
The food security conference was carried out under the Rural Women Empowerment Project phase 2. The aim of the conference was to unlock the many opportunities that exist within Namibia for the socio-economic upliftment of rural women.
The main objectives of the food security conference were as follow:
- To present the findings of the desk study on food security assessment and the impact of COVID-19 on household food security,
- To identify opportunities and stakeholders to address key factors hindering effective implementation of livelihood programme and make recommendations for sustained social change.
Conclusions and Findings:
- The desk study findings revealed that Namibia has created a conducive environment for ensuring that no one dies from hunger and evidence has proven that the country is nationally food secured. However, there are challenges in terms of boosting local production to reduce the import bill.
- The study also highlighted factors such as draught and COVID 19 pandemic which hinder household food security.
